Creating a Social Accountability (SA) Framework for Drug Demand Reduction(DDR) Schemes
The project undertaken is under the Department of Social Justice and Social Empowerment, Ministry of Social Justice, GoI.
Increasing alcohol and substance abuse are a key social challenge. Several structural, interpersonal and psychological factors correlate with alcohol and substance use initiation and continuation. These take a high toll on productivity of the individuals and create spaces for abuse and violence. Stigma and labelling, prevents the communities and users to access services by both the state as well as civil society/NGO’s. This is evidenced by the fact that the proportion of the users of the services by the GOI is miniscule vis a vis the problem. This project involves creating a social accountability (SA) framework for DDR schemes under DSJSE, GoI. Shilpa is part of a team of activists that have been working on Social Accountability, transparency and citizen involvement in ensuring accountability of the services of the state.
This assignment is not open for students as yet. However, as it moves forward, students of public policy and public administration might benefit from this. Interested may write to Prof. Shilpa Pandit @ shilpa.pandit@cvv.ac.in to intimate your interest.
